Will it need Urea additives?

Without a doubt, yes.

I'd imagine. The 6.6 Duramax uses Urea now so I would think they'd make the smaller one use it too.

Well that sucks...

I was hoping they'd fid a way to make it do without

Well, if they don't I'm sure the aftermarket will.

It's pretty much mandated in diesel equipped vehicles at this point.

It's not that expensive...

That's illegal though. You can't touch the emissions equipment.

The additive itself isn't expensive, but I've heard it's almost impossible to do the process yourself with normal tools.

I know it's illegal. I wouldn't do it personally. All the emissions stuff is why I'm way more interested in older Diesels. People still mess with the smog stuff though.

Which is unfortunate

What do you mean? You just pour it into the tank. don't you? On some cars it's hard to locate but on the truck it should be easy to reach and do yourself.

As far as VW/Audi is concerned you just pour the fluid into the reservoir, just like you would with coolant, or oil, or washer fluid.

It's required in the sense that if the vehicle puts out enough NOx then it's required. But if the car is large enough then it's needed. In the case of VW's the Jetta and Golf don't need it but the Passat does, even though they all use the same engines.

Oh okay. Cool :)
I thought it was part of some eloraborite remove, fill, replace procedure.

Well you do have to remove the cap and then replace it when you're done.
